St. Mary’s Catholic School is among the recipients of Ken Chinn’s generosity. Chinn, whose daughter Tara attends St. Mary’s, told the East Texas Review, “My passion is music. I guess I want to share it with everybody.” Chinn’s Guitar Project donated several guitars to the school. Ms. Laura Leahy, who took a sabbatical to take care of her husband, is back to her beloved school, St. Mary’s, where she is teaching music/guitar lessons. Leahy has great plans, hopes and expectations for her students.
“We are interested in Liturgical music,” Leahy said. “We are going to learn how to play the instruments and hopefully accompany the pianist in Tuesday Mass.”
“It is an awesome opportunity,” Leahy continued. “Music is instrumental in learning other subjects and we hope to capitalize on that also.” To boot, Chinn recently donated guitars to Gregg County Boys and Girl Club.
